Iran’s Ballistic Missiles… A Growing Deterrent Power

Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal is considered one of the most prominent elements of the country’s military power. Over the past decades, Tehran has developed this capability to become a central pillar of its defensive and deterrence strategy. The program includes a wide range of short- and medium-range missiles capable of striking targets across a broad regional perimeter, giving Iran the ability to influence the balance of power in the Middle East.
Among the most notable of these missiles are Shahab-3, with a range of approximately 1,300 kilometers, the Sejjil missile powered by solid fuel, and Fateh-110, known for its relatively high accuracy. Iran has developed these systems largely through domestic expertise, while also drawing on missile technologies dating back to the Cold War era.
Military experts believe these missiles constitute a strategic deterrent, particularly given the limitations imposed on the Iranian air force. They allow Tehran to maintain long-range strike capabilities without the need for air superiority.
As development and modernization continue, Iran’s missile program has become a central issue in international debates over regional security, and remains one of the key factors shaping the military balance in the Middle East.
